6th January, 2010. 3:35 pm. Plastic Space Station
Whee...I drove down to the cool hobby shop in Tecumseh, MI, to see if there were any compelling plastic models. I found a 1/144 scale kit of the MIR space station. $14. Yeah, OK, I'm a sucker...then at home I realized I'd bought the same kit in different packaging several years ago. Ooops.
Well, I decided that I'd build the consarned thing because it was silly to accumulate things like that and mot build them. I've already accumulated a silly-huge collection of plastic space model kits. And I build them at a rate of less than one per year.
Anyway, I have some thoughts about the process.( Read more... )

5th January, 2010. 10:27 pm. Leaving the Decade Behind
It's hard to believe that ten years ago, I was spending New Year's eve with my boyfriend at the time in a brand-new apartment that had been thoughtfully provided by a few close friends at the time. I had just dropped out of college and moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas to try to put my lift back together after a tumultuous (and awful) two years. I remember thinking at the time that 2000 was this big scary year that could hold just about anything for me; after the flame-out of my college career (which never recovered), I was frightened but ready for what was coming.
The next decade took me through three failed relationships, the discovery of Buddhism, dalliances with witchcraft and totemism and such, lots of bizarre experiences and a few even more tumultuous times. Finally, it took me to California, and the love of my life, with whom I've built quite a lovely existence.
As we enter 2010 I'm staring down my thirties. I can't say I'm uncomfortable with this; unlike so many people around me I actually enjoy the process of getting older, discovering all the things that my older friends and parents' generation gets excited about -- the thrill of building a nest, of establishing yourself in a community, of settling in to who you are and where you fit. I may get an itch in ten years to throw away the comfort and stability I've created for myself; who knows what the next decade will bring. I'm mostly excited, though, and a little nervous about what's in store.
This year I'd like to focus on integrating everything I've learned over the last ten years, having all of the progress I've made come to fruition. I'd like to take better care of myself, stand up for what I think is important and display my identity more. At this point I think I have a much better handle on myself, and I can be comfortable in those instances where what I love and believe in offends (or just bores) the people I come into contact with. There's a way I can co-exist with people who don't share my passions, and I don't begrudge anyone for it.
It's amazing the security that Prozac can bring, by the way. This stuff is great. ;)
So who am I? What have I learned? What are the things that I've come to care about?
Well, that's what I'll be thinking a lot about over the year, hopefully. Right now, I have three main resolutions on my agenda.
1. Exercise more. 2. Write more. 3. Spend less.

5th January, 2010. 8:53 am. Traveller 21!
Okay, here it is: the latest episode of the Traveller Campaign! The next run is the 7th Sea campaign. Oh Mr. GM Guy? I can't recall what Grandfather Droyne told us to tell his grandson when we were about to kill 'em- lemme know please and I'll add it in. Deyn has it recorded even if my notes and brain don't. :)

Current mood: Okay. Current music: None.

4th January, 2010. 11:22 am. Who knew that reading could lead to such decisions
I just finished reading the latest novel I bought - read it in about 3 days. Over New Years, I received more books from Alkora in the form of late xmas presents. And so I reach my dilemma.
Which do I read first? Do I read The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, one of the best written fantasy novels of all times; or do I read Out of Position, an award winning furry romance novel by Kyell Gold? Decisions, decisions.

3rd January, 2010. 11:35 pm. Ouch
My netbook's power cable is damaged, and I noticed it was getting hot at the site of the break (up near the laptop connection, where things bend a lot). It's cooled off now, but I think I'll have to take it entirely out of service until I can replace that part. Sadly, the upper cable is part of the power brick, so I'll have to replace the whole thing.
What this means is, depending on how tomorrow goes, I may be offline for the full week or more. This will be a pain, especially since my previous machine had a virus on it but no antivirus software (which is why I didn't know until I scanned the files I copied onto my external hard drive), and all my current data (like my daily to-do list mindmap) is on the netbook.
Sigh. At least I don't have to send in the frickin' laptop to get a power cable replaced. Tomorrow is going to be extremely important as far as getting things done goes.

3rd January, 2010. 7:52 pm. There Will Be Brawl...
There Will Be Brawl is a ten part mini-series on the web featuring, as near as I can figure, every character to appear in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl games and is loosely based on There Will Be Blood, a movie I haven't seen but now want to just to compare the two.
I'm pretty sure I remember someone mentioning "There Will Be Brawl", probably Athran, but I never tracked it down. It took someone posting about it in DeviantART to get me to finally track this down.
